Certificate III Sport & Recreation
Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre
Matthew wants to become an ambassador for the deaf community in order to help others achieve their goals, just as he is doing now through his SportFutures traineeship at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC).
Matthew started his Certificate III in Sport & Recreation at MSAC in November of 2008 after completing his VCE. He works across three different areas of the MSAC, including Children's Programs, Venue Operations and Aquatic Operations.
The Certificate III has been an exciting learning experience for Matthew, allowing him to combine the his passion for sports and recreation with on-the-job training and a professional future within the industry. With the flexible and modified training arrangements developed by the MSAC Institute of Training, along with the use of an interpreter, Matthew has excelled at his studies and proven to be a very popular class member amongst his peers. Matthew's enthusiasm for the training and willingness to learn has brought nothing but praise from his trainers.
Matthew's confidence has grown incredibly while participating in the Certificate III program. He loves the interaction with other SportFutures trainees, staff members and the general public and has found a knack for working within children's programs. While a little apprehensive to begin with, he now has full confidence communicating and interacting with the children. It is also a great experience for clients and staff to learn how to communicate with Matthew in a range of different environments.
More recently, Matthew became a finalist for the 2009 Verve Trainee of the Year Award, an industry training award to recognise excellence in vocational education within the Sport & Recreation industry.
