Croydon Leisure & Aquatic Centre SportFutures Graduation
Five SportFutures Trainees based at the Croydon Leisure & Aquatic Centre (CLAC)graduated from their Certificate III in Community Recreation Qualification with a morning tea presentation today, 16 July 2009.
The Croydon Leisure & Aquatic Centre first opened its doors in August 2008, with the five SportFutures Trainees part of the initial staffing requirements for the new facility. The MSAC Institute of Training were able to develop a traineeship package that fitted in perfectly with the operational needs of the venue and that were customised to a new facility prior to opening.
The selection and recruitment of the trainees was undertaken by the Human Resources Department of the CLAC, with trainees and newly recruited operations staff inducted as a group in preparation for the opening of the aquatic venue. Initial staff training was undertaken by the MSAC Institute of Training and included:
- Pool Lifeguard Qualifications
- Senior First Aid (Level 2)
- Customer Service Training
- Pool and Plant Room Operations
When it was time to open, the Croydon Leisure & Aquatic Centre had a team of staff with the core qualifications and training required to operate the new venue.
After the 12 month SportFutures program, the five CLAC trainees have graduated not only with a Certificate III in Community Recreation, but with a wealth of practical work experience gained through on the job training, on and off-site tuition, assessments and assignments.
The group has been trained to work primarily as lifeguards and in the customer service area and perform additional administrative tasks throughout the various areas of the centre.
