Duty Manager Qualification
Duty Managers skills now recognised through nationally accredited qualification
On a shift by shift basis, the Duty Manager becomes the face of your facility.
Duty Managers (DMs) are charged with the huge responsibility of overseeing the efficient and effective management and operations of all areas of the facility, supervising staff and a diverse range of patrons, ensuring the correct operation and management of technical plant room equipment and maintaining the centre in a hygienic, clean, safe and presentable condition.
The list of responsibilities for a Duty Manager is long, varied and often unique to your facility.
Recognising the importance and uniqueness of the DM within the sport, aquatic, recreation and leisure industries, the MSAC Institute of Training under their SportFutures traineeships brand have developed a Qualification specifically for the DM role. The MSAC Institute of Training developed the DM Qualification drawing on the expertise of two of Victoria's premier sporting facilities, the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC) and the State Netball & Hockey Centre (SNHC) as well as working in collaboration with the Croydon Leisure and Aquatic Centre, the Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre, Verve Knowledge & Skills and Jobs Plus.
Naomi Dempsey, Business & Training Manager for the MSAC Institute of Training (MIT) has been overwhelmed with response to the qualification so far. "The SportFutures DM qualification has been developed by industry, for the industry and has so far been very well received", said Ms Dempsey. "It's an opportunity for the DM to be recognised for the role they play and the skills they already possess, but more importantly to ensure they are well equipped with all required skills and training for such a unique position".
Participants of the qualification will undertake units in the areas of Human Resource Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, Aquatics, Technology, Finance and Cash Handling and Community Recreation.
The benefits of the SportFutures DM Qualification extend not just to the individual, but provide some huge advantages for the employer also. Ms Dempsey explains, "the qualification reduces risk and gives employers the confidence that their facility is in the hands of a highly trained and capable Duty Manager. At the MSAC Institute of Training we offer a range of competency based training that allows for workplace customisation, as well as flexible training delivery options".
Upon successful completion Duty Managers will receive a nationally accredited qualification (Certificate IV in Community Recreation) with additional accreditations available. "In addition to gaining a qualification and a career path within the industry, the DMs will be exposed to ongoing professional development opportunities and networking functions available to them through the MIT" said Ms Dempsey.
